Well...... here we go AGAIN!!! The challenge for 2012 and my midlife crisis rages on as I approach the BIG 40! This year I have decided to raise money for The Myton Hospices as they provide an outstanding service in the local area and this year it is their "Nurse Appeal" year in conjunction with BBC Coventry and Warwickshire plus their 30 / 10 year anniversaries for Warwick and Rugby Hospices respectively.

Why Myton? well quite honestly I cannot say enough about the place! Everybody who has been touched by Myton will understand what I mean by that as they too cannot say enough and as an employee of Myton this makes me incredibly proud :o) In Mytons words.....

Each year we care for people across Coventry and Warwickshire who are living with a terminal illness. We provide a range of services; including pain and symptom control we also offer emotional support for both patients and their families.

We know that making people feel better is not all about medicine – sometimes just having a hand to hold or someone to talk to can make all of the difference. Everyone at Myton is committed to helping patients live their lives to the full, but we know that for many it is the nurses who provide the greatest comfort, reassurance and support.

Currently we care for approximately 2,000 people every year, but we would like to reach out to many more because we believe that no one should be on a waiting list at the end of their life. Just one new nurse would enable us to care for approximately 43 more patients and their loved ones each year but this would mean we’d need even more than the £7 million we already have to raise. This is why the BBC Coventry and Warwickshire Myton Nurse appeal and your support is so important.

So what to do this year...... something a little different in the fact it will be organised charity challenge with Discover Adventure. For full details on the event please visit my website. This will commence on the 28th June 2012 for 5 days and will bring some new challenges. The first is I have to raise at least £1450.00 to participate so the pressure is on as I have set a personal target of £2000.00 to raise for this challenge. I hope to do this by taking part in a number of events such as a half marathon, full marathon and a couple of long distance AUDAX bike rides. The plan is to get pedaling in the local community in some shopping centres to publicise the challenge and hopefully raise some pennies along the way! I also hope to organise a few social events so please follow my blog / facebook page to see whats happening near you!
