Fundraising for Helen & Douglas House
Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. For those of you that don't know, I'm running the Reading half marathon at the end of March - 13.1 miles of joy around the streets of Reading...I must be mad.
Why did i originally decide to do this?
I'd love to tell you it began as a mission for a noble cause and that it's all about the "charidee", but the truth is that, like many other (half)marathon runners, it all started over a beer or two - like the greatest stories always do. A good friend of mine mentioned he'd done it before, and while he didn't paint the most positive of pictures, the idea of overcoming the challenge appealed to my lager-addled mind at the time. Fast forward to now, and im on track to complete the race and people have begun asking me "which charity I'm running for?". Something I hadn't even considered until now.....
Who?
The search for a worthwhile cause wasn't difficult. The hard part was choosing which one. There are so many out there that help those less fortunate than ourselves. I've decided that i'd like any sponsor money to go to Helen & Douglas House. The charity runs two hospice houses that help families who need respite from the full time job of looking after a family member with a life shortening condition, end of life care for those children and young adults and ongoing support for their families. I never thought I'd want to do this for charity but after reading about the work they do, it's put a different aspect on why I'm running - and added a little pressure too!
If you can afford to give something, Im confident your money will make a difference to a very deserving cause.
