Story
The Tour de Lincolnshire.... coming to a store near you!
Four colleagues from Lincolnshire Co-operative are taking on a 400 mile cycling challenge.
Food Distribution Manager Ian Bell, Area Manager Richard Robinson, Woodhall Spa Foodstore Manager Alan Bent and Works Foreman Roger Brown have teamed up to ride across Lincolnshire Co-operative's trading area. They plan to stop at all of our 71 foodstores across five days between 24th - 28th September.
With nervous thoughts of the potential pain and suffering that will come with an average of 80 miles in the saddle each day - please show them your support!
"When we say what we're going to do, people don't realise how far it is," said Richard. " It's the equivalent of cycling to London four times - it's a long long way."
They will have a support vehicle which will travel ahead of them each day, carrying supplies of food, drink and equipment - like bike spares and tents for camping out each night!
At each store they will take photographs featuring the staff and customers, keeping you updated of thier progress.
Ian Said: "We want to do something that the people we work with could see and get involved with. They also all know us and know that cycling around the county isn't something we normally do!"
They have already had a kickstart to the fundraising with £300 being won in a competition!
The route: (mileage is approximate)
Day one - Crowland to Alford 93 miles
Day two - Alford to Holten Le Clay 68 miles
Day three - Holten Le Clay to Saxilby 84 miles
Day four - Saxilby to Ruskington 89 miles
Day five - Ruskington to Carlton Centre 62 miles
Update:
Well we did it!!!
There was blood, sweat and tears (of joy of course!) but we made it. 427 gruelling (apart from the down hill ones) miles. There were plenty of ups and downs over the 5 days, we have some good weather, plenty of atrocious weather - but it was worth it. In hindsight we all enjoyed every bit of it. Many thanks to those of you have helped us do this, and many thanks to those of you who donated. We've finished well above our tartget and raised a tremendous amount of cash for Macmillan. Unfortunately we can't get any of the photos onto this site as they're too big (as in MB's), we've all got them on disk though so if you fancy a slideshow of the five days then give one of us a shout!
Once again many thanks to everyone who helped in every way.
