We offer expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness

Story

The Great Scottish Swim will be held in Strathclyde Park in Glasgow, home of the 2012 Commonwealth Games Open Water Swimming. It is a one mile open water mass participation event with some of the world's best (and worst) swimmers taking part. Not quite the Channel but there's a ferry for doing that and Motherwell is equally as cultured as Northern France.

In order to ensure we don't pull out the day before citing lack of preparation/ability, we've decided to commit to making some money for charity and have chosen a hugely important cause...

Marie Curie Cancer Care is a charity that provides support and care to terminally ill patients and their families with its network of Marie Curie Nurses and Hospices throughout the UK. The support and care is free of charge and they rely on volunteers and fundraising to allow this to continue.  Many of us will have had family members or friends that have been given the support of Marie Curie during difficult times and it is for this reason that we have chosen the Marie Curie Big Build in Glasgow as our charity.

The Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow was built more than 30 years ago, and it’s showing its age. The dated facilities are affecting patients’ comfort, privacy and the standard of care that they receive. The Big Build Appeal aims to raise £16.1 million to build a modern replacement hospice that will offer state-of-the-art care.

£16 million is a slightly optimistic target for us but please give anything you can and tell your friends to as well...

Cheers,

Lenny Henry.
