Story

Welcome family, welcome friends, welcome strangers!

In October we will be attempting to trek to Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas in Peru. This is in aid of The Salvation Army, a charity that does great work in supporting some of the most vulnerable people in society.

The 10 day trip will include work on a local project (whilst acclimatising to the altitude) followed by a 4 day gruelling trek up the mountains to reach the final destination of Machu Picchu. Neither of us has ever done anything like this before and are under no illusion that it will be a massive challenge, but we are committed to fundraising vital money for The Salvation Army's important work.

Although this will be a huge challenge we are really looking forward to it and are already training hard in preparation. Our fundraising target for the trip is £4000 each but we are hoping to raise more than this to support The Salvation Army.

After much deliberation, we have chosen to support and fundraise for Booth House in Swindon.  Booth House is a Salvation Army Lifehouse which is a 50 bed residential resettlement centre for homeless adults. It is more than a hostel or shelter because as well as providing accommodation it also provides education, training, work experience and social activities for single men and women in a supportive environment.

Recycles and The Sandwich People are just two examples of successful social enterprises that are run by those who have experienced homelessness, but who have been given another chance at building a life for themselves.

If you wish to learn more about these projects please follow the links below:

We are very excited about our choice and having contacted Booth House we know that the managers and residents alike are just as pleased and passionate about what we are doing and why we are doing it!

We will be writing a blog detailing our progress before the trip and hopefully during the trip so that everybody can stay updated on how our trek is going. Our blog will also include details of fundraising events that we will be holding between now and October - so please keep your eyes peeled for exciting events and plans! Any help, support or donations that you could give would be greatly appreciated and really will make a difference to those who really need it.

Thank you

Rebecca and Lois
