Story

******MISSION ACCOMPLISHED******

On Sunday 1st May the Lycra Brigade took to the cycling routes of the Isle of Wight and turned in a heroic performance.

Other than the 2 punctures, 1 suspected puncture, 2 riders getting lost (and then getting reunited), 2 falls (1 in the first kilometre of the course!), 1 knee "popping out and then popping back in again", 1 rider needing to be rushed to the ferry to prevent his car from getting locked up in the car park, sun-fog-sun, our ride on Sunday was extremely uneventful!

We thank you for all your support.

*WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.... On the 26 December 2004 the world watched in awe as nature unleashed its devastating tsunami power on the coast lines of Asia. Many children lost not only their parents but also their hope for life. Hope for Children (HOPE, www.hope4c.org), has been at the forefront of support of needy children for over ten years in the region. HOPE directs all its efforts through small local organisations who know what and where the local need is greatest, choosing not to have overseas offices of paid staff, instead directing funds that would be used for this straight to where the plea is greatest. *WHAT DIFFERENCE IT WILL MAKE..... All the funds raised in this endeavour will be targeted by HOPE to help and support disabled children, their families and orphans in tsunami affected areas in Sri Lanka. This specialised work will be delivered through MENCAFEP (www.mencafepsrilanka.com), a local Sri Lankan organisation. As HOPE is a registered charity (1041258) for every £1 sponsored the taxman will add an extra 28p. So please give generously as every donation will help improve the lives of disadvantaged children blighted by the tsunami. *THE MISSION SHOULD YOU WISH TO ACCEPT IT..... The Isle of Wight Randonnee (www.cycleisland.co.uk) is an annual bike ride organised by the Wayfarer CTC since 1985. It takes place on Sunday the 1st of May 2005 and two routes are available: 50km and 100km. We intend to start the ride at 9.30am. The Wayfarers have kindly agreed to let us use their facilities for this special event. If you are interested in joining please contact us directly or email us at sanath@dhammika.fsnet.co.uk - thank you. *THE LYCRA BRIGADE Call us insane, call us barmy but no one can doubt that our lycra bulges in all the right places, we are: - Carlos Reyes - Charlie Fisher - Graham Tompkins - Harindra Rajapakshe - Jan Fisher - Jo Jeffrey - John Smith - Jon Braham - Jon Fisher - Kathy House - Kevin Hogan - Leanne Knight - Maxine Willsteed - Niall Wijetunge - Nick Wayth - Paul Jeffrey - Rajani Bhogal - Revatha Seneviratne - Sanath Ediriweera - Sue Corbett - Terry Churchill - Vahid Fotuhi - Vasana Rajaguru - Zoe Newall - Yehen Jayasena We thank you all for your sponsorship & wishes..... SPONSORS The organisers would like to thank Wightlink Ferries (Kerry Jackson) for agreeing to cover the travelling cost of the cyclists from Lymington to Yarmouth. For organisational reasons we have had to move the start to Cowes and will therefore be seeking the support of another ferry company. The kind geasture that Wightlink has made is greatly appreciated.
