Story
Our daughter, Imogen Rose Sweeney was born sleeping on 24th May 2010. After a perfect pregnancy, on my due date at 40 weeks gestation, she stopped kicking. So far we have not been given a reason why she died. We have been told that in approx 50% of stillbirth's no reason is found and we are not expecting to find any reason in our case. To us, she looked perfect - just like her sister Alice. It came as a big shock as we really were expecting a completely different outcome. We have been left feeling complete disbelief and are devastated that we were denied the chance of meeting her and telling her that we loved her.
Sands was recommended to us by the midwives and they are the only support network out there for people in our situation. They have been very helpful in giving us information, especially in how to deal with siblings and their grief, as this has obviously affected the whole family and not just Oliver and myself. We have had some difficult questions which we have had to answer regarding how to say goodbye to our baby, funerals, burials, post mortems and so on. Sands has given us much support in dealing with these questions - questions which no parent wants to have to answer. They have also supported Oliver in going back to work and are at the end of the phone whenever we need them.
As such, if you would like to make a donation in memory of our daughter Imogen, then we would be very grateful if you could make it to Sands. Please don't feel obliged - we have been overwhelmed by the support we have had and are really not expecting people to extend there generosity further but I know a few people have asked and that is why we've created this page.
Thank you for looking and for your support.
Best wishes
Vicky and Oliver Sweeney
PS - our post mortem results later confirmed that there was no known cause of death - it remains a tragedy. XX
