Story

Update

Rain delays the end of walk.

The long walk to the Catalan capital  will now actually end on Saturday the 28th. My mums birthday and Pan-o-rama in notting hill. one of my favourite events of the year.

only 28km to Barcelona!!! end of Walk celebrations in The Cuban in Camden Town on tonight.

I'll have to step the rate up to get there in time for the bank holiday wekend...minimum 10 miles a day now. I fight on I fight to win!

Meanwhile in the real and serious world....

DEC, the charity I'm supporting is collecting funds for the terrible flooding in Pakistan. So any kind donation you were to offer for my admittedly paltry efforts will be helping desperate people both in Haiti and Pakistan.

One love

The story

I decided to get off my big fat bum and do a bit of walking, "cut out my porklife and get some excercise" as Blur would say.

Ever up for a challenge, I decided to take on a truly ambitious target: walking the entire distance from Wembley in London to Barcelona in Catalunya  (or Spain if you insist!). Some of my colleagues at Foundation66 convinced me to do this for charity.

The charity: DEC
The choice of charity was a very easy one: the Disasters Emergency Committees Haiti Earthquake Appeal. As a Jamaican, the Haitians are our neighbours.  As the poorest nation in the western hemisphere, Haiti has been blighted by astonishing poverty, hurricanes, violence and the ostracisment by western powers (a major cause of the poverty): all this and then a deadly devastating earthquake. Lending them a helping hand is the right thing to do.

The news crews have left. You can be sure the problems haven't.

My target is to raise £1.00 for each mile I walk, making it £707.00 pounds. Give generously.

The Challenge and the Stats
Starting in Wembley on Tuesday april 27 2010,  to walk the 707 miles or 1138 Km distance between London to the Catalan capital by Friday 27 August.

This will require walking an average of 9.55 km (a fraction under 6 miles) per day taking 15,000 steps per day for 123 consecutive days.

The method

Of course i'm not actually going to walk right through France over the Pyrennes via Andorra but I will be walking every inch of the 707 miles within the agreed time frame, come hell or high-water.

The distance I walk each day is being monitored on a scarily accurate Tanita pedometer and faithfully recorded by my  trustworthy colleague Caroline. She also calculates how far I am along the long trail to the Placa Catalunya, which will be updated here and on my facebook page. We will upload photos as i "get" to significant stops along the way.

At the time of writing I'm closing in on Dover about to "walk on water" while crossing the english channel on my way to Calais, France.

Thanks for reading. Come back occassionally to see how the the fundraising and the walking are going but most importantly give generously.
