Story

Marathon runner to trial new "All weather" running suit...

Well the training has been wet and wild and it looks like the flood barriers are going to be re-erected for marathon day, so I can’t help but feel that my all purpose latex outfit is going to give me some real competitive advantage.  Not only will it enable me to float along the waterlogged marathon course, it’ll also automatically recycle otherwise wasted bodily fluids and ensure I waste no time stopping at drinking stations.

In the event of a dry course the inherent aerodynamic properties will reduce my coefficient of drag to the minimum, enabling me to latch onto Paula Radcliffe’s slipstream and effortlessly pull me home in under 2hs 10minutes.

Currently the only disadvantage I can see with my new suit, is that with its shadowy look I won’t be visible to the crowd, so I'll also be wearing my trusty fluorescent green latex cap and snorkel, don’t forget to cheer me along...

In all seriousness though the 13th April marks 100 years of the London Marathon and I’ve been lucky enough to get a place for a fantastic charity ‘The Calvert Trust’ –  who run outdoor pursuits for the disabled, so please take this opportunity to sponsor me.

This is my first time in the marathon, ok any marathon, but I’m really excited to be part of such a great event – it’s been a long time coming, so hopefully the training will have paid off.  I’m looking to get round in 3 to 4 hours-ish (that’s by my watch, not London Flora timing) so please look out for me and give me a cheer if you’re in London, or watch me from the comfort of your arm chair on TV.

And finally, as much as I would love to be wearing my trusty wetsuit around Buckingham palace I’m worried the secret will get out and transform the look of marathons forever, therefore I will actually be wearing a bright yellow ‘Calvert Trust’ running vest – I’m the one with ‘Paul’ written on the front.

My aim is to raise at least £1300 for the Calvert Trust, where truly every penny makes a real difference.  So please sponsor me, if you do I promise to name drop you as I’m interviewed in Paula’s slipstream...
