Story
Tasha: I’ve wanted to take on a challenge like this for a while now......just couldn’t find the ‘right’ one. Those who know me well know how much I love this part of the world so it was serendipitous that this Jurassic Coast Challenge should pop up in my newsfeed one day!
Personally, Cancer Research has always been my ‘go to' charity, but this time I wanted to know the money we would be raising, no matter how big or small, would be spent on something that could have an immediate impact on someone’s life. The Starlight Children’s Foundation is an amazing charity that not only grants wishes for terminally ill children, but also provides hospital entertainment and other special events for poorly children.
I was delighted that Katherine said ‘yes’ when I asked her if she’d like to join me, though she did firstly ask if we were covering the distance “by bike, right?” One of many ways to celebrate her turning 40 just under one month prior to the event!!
Katherine: Yes she may have twisted my arm and yes, turning 40 has had something to do with taking this challenge on. It’s cliched but true; it makes you re-evaluate life and prioritise things that are really important. The children that are in my life, whether mine, nieces or nephews or friend’s children, are the reason I’m making myself walk this extreme distance with a weak ankle. They are also the reason why I chose a children’s charity like Starlight. Yes, I will hopefully get some “satisfaction” out of the walk but more importantly I want to give something back.
If the amount we raise can bring joy and happiness to just one child and distract them from the horrible experience they are going through or make a very poorly child’s dream come true, then every step taken on this walk will be worth it.
Thanks for your support xx
