Story
We made it! All the way to Tynemouth Sailing Club where we dipped our front wheels in the sea after doing the same with the back wheels at the lighthouse at Workington on Friday morning.
Cockermouth - Keswick - Penrith - Alston - Allenheads - Consett - Newcastle and then on to Tynemouth. Each one a theme for a different recurring nightmare for years to come, as I think of the pain inflicted (especially Alston, home of the ASBO). And then a celebratory Saturday night out in Newcastle where it seemed that we were the only people not on a hen/stag party - we should have kept our lycra gear on to blend in!
It was exhausting and I do not think that I have ever felt as tired as I did after the 75 miles that we did on Day One. Day Two started with some massive climbs then a gradual descent back to the sea - we averaged just over 10 miles an hour and at one point I even hit 53 mph down a steep hill. If it is was not for the sponsorship I would have hitched a ride in the van to get up some of the steep hills but, at more than £50 per mile, I gritted my teeth and just kept going.
We have raised a lot of money for the Bolton Lads and Girls Club and I am grateful to everyone who sponsored me - it's not too late for those that haven't got round to it yet though! So far I have raised nearly £7,000!
