Story

In August, I will be taking part in the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge in order to raise money for the good grief project. This feels an important cause for me to support, after having seen and experienced the grief felt by my family and myself since February 2018, when my brother, Jack, lost his life. I had never experienced grief before this, and it had a far bigger impact than I could ever have imagined. Grief is unexplainable, and losing my brother felt like the end of the world. It was the hardest thing I have experienced by far, but it was not the end of the world -time doesn't heal grief but it becomes bearable and I feel grateful that I have had the support I have needed from those around me in the most difficult period of my life, and I'm grateful that my family received compassion and support when they needed it the most. For this reason, I want to raise money for the good grief project, so that other families may also receive the support they need to cope through such a time as when you are bereaved. My brother, Jack, loved walking and was totally at home in nature, so participating in the 3 Peaks Challenge seems very fitting and I look forward to remembering him in such a way and contributing to a good cause.

-----------------

Yorkshire's Three Peaks (Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Our challenge is to complete the 24 mile trek and 1585m (5200ft) of ascent in under 12 hours. All money we raise will help bereaved families on low incomes attend one of The Good Grief Projects Active Grief Weekends. These residential retreats are especially designed to support bereaved parents and siblings who have experienced the death of a child (of any age). The aim is to help them find new and creative ways of expressing their grief. The Good Grief Project organizes 3 weekends annually, each one costing around £14,000 and although some parents can contribute to the cost (usually £250-£350 a head) we want them to be available to everyone, especially those on low incomes. Thank you so much for your support. For more info please visit https://thegoodgriefproject.co.uk/active/
