Story

Dear Friends

To all those that I have bored senseless with my constant talk of running this years London Marathon I can only apologise! I'm even starting to bore myself talking about it!

However, the Marathon is on the Sunday 25th April and I promise I will not mention it again if you sponsor me!

Some of you might have heard the story of me foolishly bidding £500 to secure a marathon place after a few glasses of wine at charity auction last year and then to my amazement, shock and despair realising I was actually the top bidder after no one else in the room raised their hand after me!

However, I'm pleased to say that the £500 that I pledged to enter the Marathon has gone to Action Medical Research who are the leading UK wide medical research charity dedicated to treating sick and vulnerable babies and children, which is really relevant as to one of the reasons I have entered the event (see below).

I'm also running to raise funds for Bliss and the Greenwich & Bexley Cottage Hospice as both charities have played major parts in the lives of people very close to me.

As way of background my dear friends Carrie and Dan have recently been blessed with the arrival of two beautiful twin girls Scarlett and Betsy. The girls were born by emergency C-section at just 26 weeks Betsy weighing just 1lb 6oz and Scarlett 2lb 4oz respectively. Betsy had heart surgery and Scarlett had eye surgery. The family spent a hugley traumatic 9 weeks in the Neonatal Ward Newport before being transferred to Neonatal Ward Cardiff for a further 7 weeks. Carrie and Dan both feel they owe the girls lives to the nurses & doctors who looked after them at the both Wards but especially the Neonatal Ward Newport, its an incredible unit and they felt like family there for the time they spent there. I attach some pics of the girls were they were born and of them today so you can see how gorgeous and healthy they now are!

Dan and Carrie have asked me to raise funds for Bliss, the special care baby charity that provides vital support and care to premature and sick babies across the UK.

I'm also running in memory of my partner Marie's wonderful mum Doreen Simms who spent her last days at Greenwich & Bexley Cottage Hospice, 60% of it's financial income is through donation and fund raising and I know Marie and her family are hugely thankful of the care and kindness that the staff of the hospice showed their mum.

Ideally I would ask you to sponsor both charities equally but even if you just manage to donate to one I will be hugely grateful!

Thanks for your support and your kind words of encouragement (especially you coach mimms) which will hopefully get me over the line on the big day!

Kind regards

Dominic

PS to those that have started a book about my finishing time can I just remind you that its a marathon and not a sprint and please be mindful that I have a body of a sprinter and not a long distance runner!!!

Bliss is the leading UK charity for babies born premature or sick. We rely on donations to fund our work but with one baby admitted to neonatal care every five minutes we don’t have the resources to reach every baby who needs us. Your donation can help Bliss ensure every baby gets the best care.
