Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
This is a story of two women, Siobhain and Becky, who turn 40 this year. Turning 40 is a big event, but perhaps not big enough in itself to ask for sponsorship. We wanted to do something physically and mentally challenging, to prove that we weren't burned out old husks and actually still had a bit of grit and muscle left in us.
As we were both at Sussex University at the same time, we decided to do the London to Brighton bike ride. However, staying faithful to our Sussex laid back roots, we missed the deadline and were too late to apply. Oh dear.
Never mind, we said. We'll set up our own challenge. And so it began....
We looked at a map of Bath and drew a circle around it with a 100 mile radius. Ilfracombe in Devon sat right there on the circumference, so that became our target - 100 miles, Bath to Ilfracombe, in 2 days. It was only after we'd set the goal that we noticed Exmoor was in the way. Oh dear.
So anyway, we had our physical and mental challenge set. The next step was to decide whether we wanted to gather in some sponsorship for our efforts (yes) and which charity should be the recipient. Although there are so many worthy charities, one sprang out - Dorothy House. Dorothy House is a wonderful local hospice which offers physical, psychological, social and spiritual care to patients and their families facing life threatening illness, death or bereavement. Siobhain's friend Georgie very sadly died quite recently from breast cancer, and the staff at DH offered lots of much needed comfort and help to Georgie and her family. Find out more about the wonderful Dorothy House here.
We're off on the 18th June, hoping to arrive in Ilfracombe at tea time on the 19th. Here's our route; we're stopping near Dunster at a B&B, ready to face Exmoor in the morning.
So that's it. Please sponsor us and make two old ladies very happy!
Much love,
Siobhain and Becky xx
