Story

Director of Evacusafe to Trek One Hundred Miles for Charity

Trekking one hundred miles across one of Britain’s oldest ancient track ways, through an array of terrain and landscapes, navigating around various obstacles, whilst laden down under the weight of a heavy rucksack carrying all of your essential supplies required for a five day trip, isn’t necessarily an adventure that appeals to many people.  However for Paul Mitchell, Director of Evacusafe UK, it just happens to be the kind of venture that he thrives upon.

On April 17th 2015 Mitch will embark on his fully self-supported trek around Avebury in Wiltshire, head along the Ridgeway towards Ivinghoe Beacon and finish in the village of Ivinghoe in Buckinghamshire.   Days will be spent navigating his way through downland, secluded valleys and woodland, whilst nights will be spent camping in a small tent in wild woodlands along the way and food will be in the form of rations used by the military.

If you think that sounds like an arduous journey and are asking yourself why anyone would take on such a task, there’s a very good reason why Mr Mitchell is doing just that.  His real mission is to raise funds and awareness for a charity that is very close to his heart; Crohn's and Colitis UK.  Mr Mitchell’s wife of 26 years has been a life-long sufferer of both Crohn's Disease and Colitis, which has seen her go through some tough times and treatment.

Mr Mitchell said “Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are the two main forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) which happen to affect thousands of people in the UK on a daily basis.  The symptoms of which can be very difficult to deal with and cause a huge amount of distress for the patient and their family.  The purpose of the Crohn's and Colitis UK charity is to improve the quality of life for those who are unfortunate enough to be affected by IBD”

“I’m an avid trekker and thoroughly enjoy this kind of adventure, as difficult as I know it will be to endure.  I completed similar venture last year and managed to raise over £800 for Breast Cancer UK, exceeding my initial target of £500.  Last year I went with a colleague, this time I will be completely alone and trekking for double the distance of my previous trip and I hope to raise even more money for this equally worthy cause”.

Mitch urges anyone wishing to donate to do so via a special web page that has been set up at www.justgiving.com/evacusafe.
