THANK YOU FOR VISITING THIS PAGE.
I AM NO LONGER COLLECTING FOR THIS RUN. PLEASE SUPPORT MY NEXT RUNS - THE LIVERPOOL HALF-MARATHON, SHEFFIELD HALF-MARATHON AND MANCHESTER 10K... www.justgiving.com/iangoleyrun
Last March I went to Sierra Leone, West Africa and saw what a civil war can do to disrupt a country. Sierra Leone has one of the worst health statistics in the world, and some of the people have very little education. Despite having next to nothing, the people in Sierra Leone have a huge sense of community, pride, expectation and hope. Education is seen as a way to achieve and is seen as a privilege – and is not taken for granted, as it sometimes is in the UK.
That's why I'm running the Liverpool half-marathon for 'Build on Books' - part of the Construction and Development Partnership (CODEP), so that books can continue to be sent to Sierra Leone. When I went last year, there was 1 book for every 100 children. Now, thanks to 'Build on Books' 100,760 books have been sent over, equipping 86 schools with a library. Some teachers have never taught with books, which is crazy considering what we have here.
Waterloo and the rest of the country is on the way up, and this can continue with funding...so please donate what you can - whether it's a quid or more, whatever you can give is great.
For those interested, I'm aiming and have been training to run the 13.1 miles in 1 hour 45 minutes. Starting and finishing by the Echo arena - via Upper Parliament Street, round Princes Park, round Sefton Park, and back along the Mersey.
