This September, I will be climbing , ’s highest mountain, to raise money and awareness for CAMFED, the Campaign for Female Education.

Why CAMFED?

When you educate a woman in , everything changes. She’ll be three times less likely to get HIV/AIDS; earn 25% more income and have a smaller, healthier family which in turn will be 40% more likely to live beyond the age of 5. CAMFED work tirelessly to promote education in sub Saharan Africa, and they have improved the school environment for over 1m children since 1993, funded 43,000 high school scholarships, provided 6,034 start up grants to aspiring business women and trained more than 1,500 women to teach others how to prevent diseases like HIV and AIDS. 

The challenge:

I will be:

-          tackling the 4, 167m of   - conquering steep slopes, hot sun and high altitude AND

-          camping out under the African stars, with no showers, long drop toilets and carrying my own equipment

-          working hard to hit my target of £1000 in donations – every penny of which will go to support CAMFED

to support CAMFED in transforming the lives of girls and women in Sub Saharan Africa who don’t share the educational advantages we grew up with

Training:

My training schedule is gruelling, with many hours to be spent clambering up hills and running long distances to prepare my lungs for the challenges of altitude and steep inclines; I have just completed the Bath Half Marathon, will be completing the Bupa London 10k on 31st May and am regularly to be found puffing my way round the paths, canals and parks of Surrey! My very first pair of walking boots are also starting to creak under the expectation of many long, hilly walks through the hot summer months. For those of you who know me well, you will know that although I have been running for the last 9 months, that has not been without its challenges (!) and I am certainly not built for hills... please help me to raise funds for this great cause, providing education and support to those who really need it.
