Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

On Saturday 15th November, i'll be running the Queenstown Marathon in New Zealand, fundraising for the National Brain Appeal Rare dementia Support fund.

As some of you know, my Dad was diagnosed with Frontotemportal dementia (FTD) just under 3 years ago.

Whilst Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, there are many other less known diseases such as FTD that can lead to dementia. These conditions are rarer, often occur at a younger age, are more likely to be hereditary and can cause symptoms that are not only memory-related. These include difficulties with vision, language, movement and behavioural changes.

Between 5% and 15% of people living with a dementia receive a diagnosis of a rare, inherited or young onset dementia.

'Rare Dementia Support' based at University College London have been an invaluable source of support to my family as we've navigated my Dad's condition and his care requirements. They provide support to people with the conditions and their families as well as running education programs for healthcare professionals. They also lead a range of pioneering research programs / studies. The organisation relies on fundraising efforts to continue their great work.

I've been training solidly for the past 20 weeks and have notched up over 500km so far. At this stage i'm just looking forward to finishing! Any sponsorship you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again

David
