18 children and 12 adults will be cycling 150 miles off road in three days in May 2012. We're raising money for ActionAid and the Class 8 trip at Wynstones School in Gloucestershire.
ActionAid will be helping children and their communities in East Africa to access education, sanitation, water and food, giving them a sustainable long term lifeline. £10 could provide mosquito nets for a family of five in flood prone Vietnam. £29 could help a poor family in Guatemala establish a community garden. £100 could provide 1,000 primary school pupils in Malawi with a daily meal of nutritious porridge for one week. £290 could pay for a year’s community education on HIV and AIDS, primary health care and child rights for orphans in Cambodia. £500 could fund one school garden for a year, providing a lasting food source for pupils in Malawi. £1,200 could pay for a basic shelter for 20 street children in India. £5,000 could provide a borehole for one school, providing a clean and safe water supply in Malawi. The class 8 trip is a rite of passage, a chance for the 14 years olds to learn some real life skills and celebrate their eight years of learning together before moving on to their GCSEs.
Nine months ago, the team members had not ridden more than ten miles in one go before. We have been training weekly and are now riding 50 miles at a time. We have been riding in all weathers, freezing rain, cold wind and some winter sun.
