Story
"Team Touchy", aka Dan Vito and Steve-O, are about to embark on their greatest adventure yet... driving from England to Mongolia in a crapbox - with a Telstra Touchfone 400 strapped to the bonnet. What are they thinking?
For those who do not know what's going on, we've signed up to take part in the 2007 Mongol Rally. It's a charity car race... of sorts. The basic premise is you drive from London, England, to Ulaanbaatar, the captial of Mongolia - a distance of about 9,000 miles covering around 12 countries over around four weeks - raising money for charity. Simple? Not quite. There's a catch - the car has to have less than a 1000cc engine and must be at least 10 years old. Basically, this means it has to be generally considered to be "crap". Add to this two mountain ranges, two deserts, a pile of border crossings, armed bandits, roads that just disappear... we've got our work cut out for us!
We have chosen three charities and plan to raise £1000 (AU$2500) for each of them. This page is for donations to Christina Noble Children's Foundation (CNCF) who aim to change the lives of disadvantaged children in Mongolia. Here are a few of the projects they are currently running:
- The Sponsorship Program helps families who are in danger of splitting up or where children may drop out of school due to poverty. The family receives sponsorship for a child as long as he/she is living with them and in full-time education.
- The Sunshine Ger Village Project provides a shelter for street children and orphans in Ulaanbaatar. The shelter consists of 11 gers and a kindergarten.
- Prison Education Project provides full-time education at the Boys' Prison and teachers work three days a week at the Girls' Section of the Women's Prison.
-Healthcare Project operates a clinic at the Charity Hospital five days a week, to provide free health care and medication to the children in the sponsorship program and street children. There is also a mobile night clinic for street children that travels the city's streets, bringing emergency medical treatment, medical advice and small treats to children otherwise abandoned to the ice and snow.
- Give a Ger Campaign is an emergency fund established to provide families in danger of becoming homeless, or otherwise inadequately or dangerously accommodated, with a family home of a Mongolian Ger.

NOTE: If you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. I am not sure if the Australia Tax Office or other international taxation departments will accept donations through this site as tax deductions. I will update this page as soon as I figure this out.
