The successful reconstruction of 20 schools in the most affected regions, coupled with the provision of teacher and learning aids, uniforms, the establishment of community libraries and teacher training, has positively impacted over 2,000 children.

Story

We are a team of two builders and a photographer which fell in love with Nepal since our first visit there in late 2018.

The Juniper Trust Foundation gave us the opportunity to build a boys toilet for a previously rebuilt school (2017) in a remote area of Nepal that does not typically get any attention from foreign charities. In 2019 we aim to extend our help by raising funds and building a kindergarten in a similarly remote, non-touristic village, placed in the area of Nepal most affected by the devastating earthquake of 2015.

The project is located approx. 240km away from the capital city of Kathmandu in a village called Bamti, a 12h spine rattling bus ride almost entirely on very bumpy dirt tracks, crossing passes at over 3000m in altitude. At the moment, the 26 children and 2 teachers are working in a very small hut, with tin walls and roof, a door and a small window. The aim of this project is to build a two classroom kindergarten with separate toilets for children and teachers.
The site will be coordinated by the two builders, Dimitrie Mihailiuc and Vasile-Nelu Mihailiuc, who will apply their knowledge and use locally available building materials in ingenious ways to create an earthquake proof building and provide it with enough light and heat for the kids and the teachers to conduct their activity under the best possible conditions. Local workers are already setting up the site and building the foundation, so the walls and final build can be made when we arrive there with the rest of the volunteers.
We believe all the children of this world deserve equal opportunities to have a happy childhood and grow up to have a meaningful life, so in a country with a very hostile topography, difficult climate, a still undeveloped economical and administrative system, very expensive and difficult to access healthcare, very difficult transportation, where even clean drinking water is a difficult proposition, a small helping hand from us can go a long way to dramatically improve the lives of these children. Education is something that we take for granted in the western world, but the enthusiasm we saw in the children at the few rebuilt schools we visited last year was a heartwarming surprise.
We see these projects as a way to get involved in something bigger than ourselves, and we urge you to try to see them in the same way. So please consider making a donation, every small amount matters.
If you are interested in volunteering in Nepal, please get in touch at dimitrie.mihailiuc@gmail.com or mihnea.spinoiu@gmail.com
The funds we are raising are being used entirely for buying building materials and paying some local workers. As volunteers, we and any others who will join us will be paying for all personal expenses by ourselves.
An additional fundraising effort is being made by our friends and partners at Adventure Aid Nepal  (https://adventureaidnepal.org/) for buying uniforms and learning materials for this school and two additional ones (Rawa Dolu and Vidhyadatri) that are being built in the same time. Please consider supporting them as well.

Thank you,
