Story

I am dedicating all of my races in 2019 to the TRIBE Freedom Foundation. 3 of those races are the longest distances/hardest races I have attempted by far. It's been a tough year of training and racing, but it's all worth it because I know I'm raising money for such a worthy cause.

The TRIBE Freedom Foundation was inspired by a 1,000 mile run to fight human trafficking. Modern Slavery is taking place across the UK - the Home Office estimates over 13,000 slaves are living in the UK at any one moment. Someone is taken in to slavery every 30 seconds... It's shocking, and it needs to stop.

Please take a look at this video so you can really understand who you will be helping if you sponsor me today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5xxIwwt71g.

Funds raised are granted to inspiring projects: (i) providing rehabilitation for the victims of slavery and trafficking, (ii) delivering solutions to help end modern slavery, (iii) raising awareness and increasing education of the causes of slavery.

This year the challenges I am attempting will truly test my limits further than ever before. The two biggest races are TDS (120km non-stop in the Alps, with 7,300m elevation), and the Wadi Rum Ultra (260km across the Jordanian desert in extreme heat).

I realise I live an extremely fortunate life: I am healthy, I have a roof over my head, I have loving friends and family around me, but most of all I have the FREEDOM to do what I want to do (including these crazy races!) It's so easy to take all of this for granted, so I want to spend this year fundraising for an important cause, so that I can help give freedom and strength back to those that have had it taken from them.

These are the main challenges I am taking on (/have completed) this year:

8th October - the Wadi Rum Ultra Marathon (260km across the desert, over 5 days in extreme heat). I really struggle to run in the heat, so 5 days of it, in addition to the sand and the relentless sun, is going to be extremely difficult. The longest say will be 80km (nearly the same distance as my longest race to date in June...which took 12 hours!) I am taking part in this with Team Like A Girl.

28th August - TDS Mountain Ultra Marathon, Chamonix (121km, 23,950ft elevation). If you followed my journey for the OCC race last August (55km, 11,482ft) then you will be able to imagine how hard this race (over twice the distance and twice the elevation of OCC) will be. I will be running for up to 33 hours (through the night, in the dark, in the middle of the Alps). This is going to be as much of a mental battle as a physical one and I really need your help to get me through.

9th June - Race to the Tower, The Cotswold Way (85km) - my longest ever non-stop race distance which will be a HUGE challenge!!

22nd May - Hackney Half Marathon (For this race I have committed, with over 300 TRIBE members, to the TRIBE 10% project; to push our boundaries and cut 10% off our PB's in order to raise a total of £100,000! 10% is a huge amount to take of my PB, especially as I don't spend much time running on roads...but I will do my best!)

28th April - CTS Pembrokeshire Ultra Marathon (55.5km, 3,642ft elevation)

I would be really grateful if you could spare a donation, however big or small for this great cause - everything will help!!

Thank you so much,

Hannah xx
