Lands End to John O Groats · 29 April 2011

We’re Mind, the mental health charity, working across England & Wales. We believe no one should face a mental health problem alone. We’re here for you. Whether you’re stressed, depressed or in crisis. We’ll listen, give support & advice, & fight your corner. Thanks for fundraising for national Mind.

Story

Me

My name is Paul.  I am cycling with team five-against-one (Mark, Kev, Paul, Jonathan, Trev); a slightly random collection of blokes who decided they would ride from Land's End to John O' Groats.

Ian

An awesome bloke and fantastic friend who made everyone laugh.  Ian had a loving family and many friends.  He had a great job and his life was good. On the night of the 14th December 2004 Ian delivered his Christmas cards, and that was the last time I saw him.  We had been very close friends for 19 years.  The following day he killed himself.  He was 31 years of age.

Why Mind?

Suicide is the second most common cause of death for men aged 15-44 years, behind accidental death.  At Ian’s funeral his parents Bill and Joan, his sister Emma and his fiancée Nicky asked that donations could be made to this charity which promotes and protects good mental health for all.  Supporting this good cause in Ian's memory means a lot to us all.

Lands End to John O’ Groats (LEJOG)

Ian was a keen cyclist and he would approve of this suitably grand challenge to test body and soul.  I am sure he will be willing us on, but I wish he was joining us.  Your comment below in memory of Ian or in support of our ride would be really appreciated.
