Story

Dear friends, colleagues & relatives,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

On Saturday June 12th 2010, a few friends and I will be cycling from to (about 56 miles) to raise funds/money for charity. My individual target, rather a very ambitious one, is to raise a total of £10,000, which will be shared, on 60:40 percentage basis, between two very worthy charitable causes; United World Colleges & Windle Trust International. I will personally bear the cost of a bicycle (basically I will try to revamp my old mountain bike and hope it will take me there) and all that’s required, including getting fit (if at all possible) and ready for the big ride.

The United World Colleges (International) will use its share to set up a scholarship for a young Zimbabwean of high potential to study at Mahindra UWC of for two years. The student will be from a minority ethnic community or tribe and would not otherwise have the means to access the standard of education that UWC can provide. £13,500 will cover the full cost of education, board, travel and expenses over two years during which the student will study for the IB diploma in as well as partaking in extensive community service projects and cultural activities with their peers from up to 80 countries. When the student graduates from UWC he or she will have access to guaranteed scholarship funding to attend a top university.

The Windle Trust International on the other side will use its share to support a needy Sudanese student with potential, and from a marginalized ethnic tribe/community, who meets its selection criteria to come and pursue a postgraduate course (PG Diploma/Certificate or Masters) in any British Universities. As part of the scholarship agreement, the student will be required to return to to help to apply the skills and knowledge attained in the reconstruction and development of his community and country.
