More than 8 million people are on the brink of extreme hunger in Afghanistan.

Severe drought, years of conflict, and the Covid-19 pandemic have caused a crisis. Children are dying today, and a million more under the age of five are at risk of dying over the next three months.

As temperatures drop, and the freezing winter sets in, many lives could be lost if we don't act now.

ActionAid along with other DEC member agencies are on the ground, trying to reach the most vulnerable.

We are providing emergency support to communities in four provinces across Afghanistan including Herat, Kabul, Ghor and Balkh - distributing cash support and hygiene kits for women and girls, to around 1,000 families. Your support will help us provide food for children; supply winter kits to help families to stay warm, and protect women and girls.

We aim to scale up our response in the coming weeks, and your fundraising could help us reach more than 10,000 families with food support and essential items to survive Afghanistans harsh winter, including blankets and heating equipment.

£90 could provide blankets for three families.

£150 could provide a winterisation package to provide heating equipment for a family of seven.

£250 could provide emergency food to five families for 45 days.
