Story

To mark this year's mental health awareness week (18th-25th May) Lancashire Mind are launching their biggest fundraising challenge and we need your help. Can you help to complete the equivalent of the palatine of Lancashire's Boundaries, a total of 417 miles?

At Lancashire Mind we believe that there should be no barriers to people achieving good mental health and wellbeing and we are working to break boundaries and lead a mental wellbeing revolution. Many of the team have lived in experience of mental health conditions and/or have seen the impact poor mental health and wellbeing has had on loved ones.

We don't want anyone to face mental health conditions alone and see a future where everyone in Lancashire understands their mental health and wellbeing, see it as important as physical health and know how to look after it. The Lancashire Mind team want your help to walk/run the border of Lancashire to show that everyone in this county matters.

Can you join us and become one of the Lancashire Mind Boundary Breakers? Together we have just 14 days to complete the challenge, starting on 30th May, running or walking, cycling, whatever you enjoy most, until we reach our total.

By signing up to be a Lancashire Mind Boundary Breaker you can set your distance to be anything you like and every mile will help us to reach our target. For example, you may choose to walk or run 5 miles in a day which will be added to the 417 target. Or you may choose to walk 15 miles over a week. If doesn't matter how you do it. What matters is you are taking us all closer to our target and showing your support.

As well as being a part of the supportive closed Facebook group with daily updates on the challenge, which we will send those joining us in the challenge details for, we are going to have a group Zoom call at the end when the final mile has run so no matter what part of the journey you join us for we will all complete the challenge together.

We are asking those who take part to donate or ask friends and family to support the challenge if they can. Donations can be made via this campaign page and every donation counts just as every mile does!

You don't have to take part to donate you can simply sponsor the Lancashire Mind team. It's going to be a hard challenge and your support will really spur the Lancashire Mind Boundary Breakers on.

Lancashire Mind has had many fundraising events and activities cancelled or postponed meaning the income we receive from the support of people like you all across county has reduced so your help means more than ever.

As Lancashire's local mental health and wellbeing charity, all money donated will go directly to Lancashire Mind and helping us to achieve our vision of mental wellbeing for all. We're working towards a Lancashire where: we can all achieve good mental health and wellbeing, people living with a mental health condition get the right support when needed and we don't treat people differently because of their mental health.

We do this by-

Working with people of all ages to build resilience, wellbeing and knowledge of mental health . We work with children from an early age and in communities around Lancashire to increase awareness of mental health and the ways in which we can improve and maintain our wellbeing

Supporting people who are experiencing barriers to achieving good mental health . We provide group and one-to-one coaching for people at risk of developing poor mental health, helping them to identify barriers and unhelpful behaviours and develop coping strategies through guided self help

Helping people to achieve and maintain recovery from poor mental health .We provide housing and support for people with a mental health condition to return to independent living.

Thank you to the Real Friends of Lancashire who devised this walk. A Lancashire Border Walk was first proposed and devised by Howard May in the 1980s but did not become an established route. The project by the Friends of Real Lancashire, assisted by the Association of British Counties, has taken this further, to devise a circular route around the whole boundary of the county palatine, including the sea coast. More details can be found here: http://wildthinguk.co.uk/walks/lancashire-border-walk/
