An important message from Sands CEO Clea Harmer appealing for support to ensure the stability of Sands future work for the people we support:

Dear Supporters,

Today I urgently need to ask for your help.

The COVID-19 outbreak is affecting families across the UK and those affected by the death of a baby will need Sands support more than ever in these uncertain times.

We are already seeing an increase in demand for our bereavement support services so your help is needed now more than ever.

The Sands helpline and online community are vital in keeping bereaved families connected by offering a safe, confidential and compassionate space to talk.

Sadly, Sands is not immune from the effects of this pandemic. Our staff and volunteers, many of whom are bereaved parents, are working tirelessly but these vital lifelines can and will only continue to function if Sands survives this outbreak.

We are entirely reliant on voluntary fundraising support and are already seeing the financial impact of the virus with fundraising and events being cancelled putting more than half of the income we rely on at risk.

I know you and your loved ones will be worried by what is happening and be focused on protecting yourselves. That is absolutely the right response.

But we must not forget that as more people need to self-isolate, bereaved families will feel this physical and social isolation acutely.

Sands is determined to do everything possible to bring people together and to be a beacon of comfort and hope.

As Chief Executive, I must ensure that once this crisis has passed, Sands is able to give all vulnerable families who need it, the vital support they will undoubtedly need.

So I am asking you today to please give what you can to the Sands Resilience Fund to ensure we can continue our essential work.

We have been here for each other through the darkest of times and I feel sure you and all our supporters will do whatever you can to help us ensure our future stability. Thank you.
