ActionAid works with courageous women and girls who are championing change, challenging inequality, and leading their communities towards a more equal, fair, and just future. We back the women’s rights organisations they lead and take action to challenge harmful societal norms and unfair systems.

Story

A catastrophic flood struck Nepal’s Rasuwa district on 26 August after an intense surge of water entered the Bhotekoshi river and rapidly travelled downstream through the Trishuli river corridor.

At least 470 people have died and more than 826 people are reported missing. Approximately 317,000 people have been impacted and at least 40,000 people have been displaced.

Entire communities are experiencing extensive destruction, with homes, markets, bridges and roads washed away or severely damaged. Our team and partners in Nepal are planning a rapid needs assessment, prioritising the downstream area of Dhading.

As with any emergency, women and girls are often disproportionately affected, as well as the first to respond. ActionAid’s response will put women and girls at the centre, recognising the increased needs for protection, loss of livelihoods and increased care responsibilities.
