Binson Gives Month – Music

Support improvements to shared music spaces at Robinson. Every gift helps unlock the full potential of music at Robinson. Our target is £5,000.

Closes 31/03/2026

Robinson is the University of Cambridge's newest College, founded in 1977 by a donation. We are known for our distinctive red-brick architecture, teaching, and welcoming community. We support outstanding academic excellence, access, and student wellbeing in a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment.

Story

“Music has helped me build confidence and connect with people across College. Performing each week is often the highlight of my time here. I love being part of the Music Society and exploring such a wide range of musical genres. Having the right opportunities, spaces and support makes such a difference – it helps us grow, try new things and feel part of a real musical family. Better facilities and equipment will make that possible for even more students.” – Fearghus, 2nd Year, Economics

Music plays a vital role in College life. It brings students together across subjects and backgrounds, supports wellbeing, and offers creative balance alongside academic study. From classical performance to bands, choirs to contemporary music, shared spaces allow creativity and connection to flourish.

Our goal

During Binson Gives Month, we are raising funds to enhance Robinson’s shared music spaces – improving the experience of rehearsal, performance and informal music-making across the College.

Thanks to the generosity of an alumnus, initial improvements will soon be underway. Further support will enable better equipment, enhanced acoustic separation and more flexible environments that students can use confidently and creatively. Additional funds will also strengthen student-led music-making, supporting new ideas, collaborations and performances.

Why now?

Lent Term is a demanding time, as students complete assignments and begin preparing for exams. As academic pressure increases, access to creative outlets becomes even more important. Well-designed music spaces make it easier for students to practice, collaborate, express themselves and switch off from studying.

Giving now ensures these improvements continue to develop, strengthening student wellbeing and creativity in the months ahead.

As Robinson looks towards its 50th Anniversary in 2027, this project reflects a commitment to creativity, connection and shared experience – investing in the everyday moments that shape the College.
