Story
EVENT POSTPONED UNTIL AUTUMN 2020. PLEASE SEE EXPLANATION BELOW
At the latest count, there are over 40 people sleeping rough on Leicester's streets. This number is unfortunately growing. At The Bridge Homelessness to Hope, we support those that are on the streets by providing food provisions, support, laundry cleaning, showers and food parcels. As a charity, our services cannot commence without generous donations from fundraising.
The Bridge is looking for volunteers to wrap up warm and brace themselves for a night out in the elements to raise awareness of homelessness and the reality of sleeping rough.
Volunteers will spend the night under the stars for a taste of what street homelessness might be like with only cardboard, a sleeping bag, flasks and the clothes on their back for warmth.
The Big Sleep Out will take place on 26 March, 2020 at the University of Leicester and De Monfort University. The Bridge Homelessness to Hope is asking local businesses and their staff to sign up, take part in the challenge and raise much-needed funds through sponsorship.
All funds raised through the sponsorship for the event will be donated to The Bridge Homelessness to Hope to help the citys homeless community.
Individuals or local businesses willing to join The Big Sleep should contact David Fawcett at The Bridge Homelessness to Hope on 07534 059658 or email david@bridgeleicester.org
David Fawcett, Executive Operations Manager at The Bridge Homelessness to Hope commented: Were looking for hardy souls to take on The Big Sleep challenge, either individually or as part of a group representing a local organisation. The night will be a real eye-opener and will hopefully raise funds to help us to continue our work supporting the homeless community in the city of Leicester
POSTPONEMENT:
The Big Sleep, an annual charity sleep-out event for students and staff from the University of Leicester and De Montfort University, and local businesses, has been postponed as a precaution against the coronavirus.
The Big Sleep raises funds for The Bridge Homelessness to Hope, a Leicester-based homeless charity and was due to take place on Thursday 26 March 2020 at the University of Leicester and De Montfort University campuses in Leicester. The event will now be rescheduled in autumn 2020.
The Big Sleep involves volunteers spending the night under the stars for a taste of what street homelessness might be like with only cardboard, a sleeping bag, flasks and the clothes on their back for warmth.
For any questions relating to the postponement of The Big Sleep (from an operational or sponsorship perspective), please email David Fawcett (david@bridgeleicester.org) at The Bridge Homelessness to Hope.
David Fawcett, Executive Operations Manager at The Bridge Homelessness to Hope commented: The Big Sleep raises much-needed funds for the citys homeless community but in the light of the current coronavirus precautions about group activities, and after consulting with our hosts at the University of Leicester and De Montfort University, we have taken the decision to postpone the event in March and reschedule in the autumn term.
