Story

Rugby League Cares is taking on Italy in their 2026 cycling challenge - turning grit into greatness

The Rugby League Cares Cycling Challenge to Italy brings together purpose, adventure, and the spirit of the sport. This unique event takes riders through one of Europe’s most spectacular cycling landscapes over five incredible days, covering approximately 300 miles through the heart of Tuscany. Visiting iconic destinations including Florence, Arezzo, San Quirico, and San Gimignano, before finishing back in Pisa.

How are donations used?

Our events and fundraising activities raise money to support seriously injured players via the auspices of the Benevolent Fund, and to enable the important work taking place around brain health in the sport. Statistics show that rugby league is now safer to play than ever before, but accidents can still happen. And when they do, the Benevolent Fund is there to provide lifelong support to players - and their families - who have experienced life-changing events on the field.

Brain health

Launched in 2023, our Brain Health Fund is a dedicated programme that educates, protects and informs players on issues concerning neurodegenerative conditions such as memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer's disease. The money we raise helps fund research into brain health in rugby league, creating a better understanding of this important subject and equipping players with the information they need to make informed decisions about their own safety.
