Our beautiful son, Dewi Bach (welsh for Little Dewi), came into the world fighting for his life. Born with severe HIE (Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy), a type of brain injury caused by a lack of oxygen at birth, and a bleed on the brain stem, he was not expected to survive. He was transferred to a hospice for end-of-life care at 7 days old, but against all odds, Dewi defied expectations and pulled through.

Now 10 months old, Dewi continues to show an incredible strength of spirit each and every day.

As a result of his brain injury, Dewi has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, CVI (cortical visual impairment—he is blind), and epilepsy, including a severe form called infantile spasms. His condition means that he has not yet met typical developmental milestones—he cannot sit, roll over, or hold his head up without support. Every movement, every response, is a challenge. But inside, Dewi is very much present, responsive to love and comfort, and determined in his own way.

Just4Children are fundraising to help provide Dewi with the specialist equipment he needs to be safe, supported, and comfortable. Dewi needs specialist equipment to better experience the world and participate in family life. We are also seeking funds for early intervention therapies such as intensive physiotherapy sessions at centres in London, which are vital in giving Dewi the best possible chance to develop his abilities and quality of life. Early intervention can make a significant difference in neurodevelopmental outcomes, and timing is critical. Additional funds could be used to fund stem cell treatment which could be helpful to regenerate some brain tissue.

Despite the challenges he faces, Dewi continues to surprise and inspire everyone around him. Your support can help give him the tools and therapies he needs to realise his potential and live a fuller, more comfortable life.
