Every Step for Sofia

Campaign by Just4Children

Sofia needs a lot of therapeutic input to achieve her goals. This would include specialist equipment, hydrotherapy and hippotherapy to make the world more accessible for her.

Story

Sofia is aged 7 from Marple in Cheshire. She is an identical twin and was born at 30 weeks in 2017. After a difficult few weeks in NICU and suffering from Sepsis, we were finally able to take our tiny babies home. As time went on, we noticed a difference in their movements and Sofia was diagnosed with Spastic Diplegia, a type of Cerebral Palsy.

As anyone who has ever met her will tell you, Sofia is a determined, bright little girl with a smile that lights up the room. The CP affects her legs, causing spasticity which makes it very difficult to walk.

Every aspect of life for Sofia is a challenge. Despite this, she, quite rightly, wants to do everything her sister, Valentina, and older brother, Massimo, can do. It is often a struggle, but in our family we believe it is up to us to make the world accessible for our little Sofia. Our family motto is "You can do ANYTHING".

We are now looking forward to making more progress with Sofia. This means raising money. Sofia will always have CP, but the more time and effort we can put into physio, the greater her chances of independence. We are fundraising for Just4Children to provide specialist equipment and private physiotherapy, which will give Sofia the greatest chance of reaching her potential.

There is also the possibility that Sofia may have to have PERCS surgery to release the tightness in her hamstrings. This may not be available on the NHS. It may therefore involve more fundraising for the initial operation and the intensive physio after to maximise results.

Thank you for your support.
