Keeping our animals warm, especially over the colder months is a top priority at the shelter. As it has for many households, shelter heating bills have risen since we launched our Heat A Home campaign in 2019.
It currently costs £46,895.30 a year for our heating bills at both our Benton Rehoming Centre and our Claremont Road Arrivals Centre. We have 181 homes for the animals in our care between the two sites, so each home costs £259.09 a year to heat.
Our heating is a significant but essential cost and is why this Christmas we are appealing for your help to raise much needed funds. All funds raised from this campaign will go towards paying to heat our shelters. This includes, gas, electricity, appliances (heat lamps, heat pads, radiators, boilers etc), repairs and even oil as our Benton site is mostly run off oil boilers.
Can you help by making a donation to help with our heating? Every donation makes a huge difference, no matter the size or frequency. Whatever you can give is so very much appreciated, whether it is a couple of pounds you might usually spend on a coffee or the spare change in your purse or wallet.
For anyone wishing to go the extra mile, try doing some fundraising to help us! You could organise a coffee morning, bake sale, dress up day at work or set yourself a personal challenge: walking a set number of miles in a month or giving up something for a month, like coffee. You could have a collection at your workplace and see how many donations you can get from colleagues.
For any individual, group or business who would like to donate £259.09 to heat a kennel or pen for a year, you will receive a plaque on a kennel or pen which you will be able to design (well be in touch after you donate to discuss).
If you require any further information, please contact us by emailing info@dogandcatshelter.com and a member of the team will be more than happy to help.
Thank you for supporting the shelter, we could not look after the animals in our care without you. You are a vital part of our team.
Sending best wishes from the team here at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter.
