Story

Home-Start Wessex is a family support charity that works with vulnerable and disadvantaged families who have at least one child under the age of five. Through a team of trained volunteers and professional staff, the charity provides practical, emotional and non-judgemental support tailored to each family's individual needs. This may include regular home visits, telephone befriending, group support sessions and parenting guidance, helping parents build confidence, reduce isolation and develop resilience during challenging times. Home-Start Wessex aims to give every child the best possible start in life by strengthening family relationships and supporting parents to create a safe, positive and nurturing home environment. For many families, this support can be life-changing, as reflected in the experiences and feedback shared by those who have received help from the charity.

The help I received was unstructured and without harsh guidelines, in the very best way. I don’t like baby groups and organised things very much, it makes me feel as though I need to be masked and performative. It was easy to welcome Jan into our home as there was no expectation, no pressure to impress and I knew she was there to support me and was choosing to do so out of her own good will. Jan came into my life when I really didn’t know where my life may be going or how I would cope. I could not have gotten through that period of my life without her. From just a chat, a change of perspective or simply taking a moment to breathe and be alone while facing being a brand new single mum, Jan took it all in her stride. Many times, Jan witnessed some very personal and sensitive times in my life and, from the moment she arrived, always felt like a friend & someone I had known for years . A real testament to what it is Home-Start do. Thank you from the bottom of my heart x

Without this group I fear I may have become even more isolated and perhaps depressed, as through this group I have met a mum tribe. We offer each other companionship and care and meet up several times a month

Without Home-Start Wessex I would have fallen apart.
