Each year, we encourage people to get out and active whilst supporting the work we do for local older people. By committing to Run, Walk, Swim or whatever exercise takes your fancy, each day in the month of May, you can raise money for our charity and get fitter at your pace!
Keep it Simple - Challenge yourself to run every day in the month of May, your speed, your distance. For every day you do this, pop £1 into an achievement jar BUT if you miss a day, add £2 as a forfeit! Pay in your total via JustGiving at the end of May.
Step it up a gear- Raise sponsorship from friends and family to really boost your fundraising, we can help with sponsorship forms and promoting your achievements on social media, just get in touch.
How can your fundraising help? - Befriending is our most requested service, it's free to use and provides company to older people who feel isolated and alone. Loneliness causes not only mental but physical health decline and can be reduced by something as simple as a visit and a natter! By donating to Age UK Wakefield District, you can support the comprehensive training for our wonderful volunteers meaning we can make more Befriending matches and reduce the number of people who go a whole week with no one to speak to
A quote from *David...
" I watch a lot of TV, I listen to the radio but it's not the same as a conversation. My wife loved to talk, I used to complain she talked to much but now I miss her and that chatter so much.
When Age UK Wakefield District suggested a had a Befriender I was really reluctant, I worried we'd have nothing in common and that it would feel awkward, but I was so wrong! When Beth comes to visit, we have a laugh, she cheers me right up and the time flies by. Beth's visits give me something to look forward to each week and makes Wednesdays my favourite day."
