Whether you want to increase your fitness, improve your swimming, work towards your New Year's resolution, or simply have fun swimming, join our sponsored swim challenge.
You have 12 weeks between Monday 13 January and Monday 6 April 2020, to complete your chosen challenge.
You, your family, family, work colleagues and school mates can take on one of four distances, either individually or as a team. You can swim anywhere, so whether you swim at your local pool, jet off and swim in the sun on holiday, brave the January ocean or count your lengths during swimming lessons, it's totally up to you:
Channel Swim - 21 miles - that's 1352 lengths of a 25 metre pool. Take the distance on yourself or make up a team of family and friends either to achieve the distance together or challenge each other to see who reaches France first.
Half Channel - 10.5 miles - that's 676 lengths of a 25 metre pool. If youre worried that you may not manage 21 miles, this is the perfect option if you still want to push yourself.
Junior/Intermediate - 2.1 miles - that's 136 lengths of a 25 metre pool. If you're taking part as a family or have recently got back into swimming, this could be the distance for you.
Junior/Beginner - 1 mile - - that's 64 lengths of a 25 metre pool. The perfect option for those who haven't yet reached longer distances but still want the challenge - ideal for all the family
Alec swam 21 miles in 12 weeks to raise funds to support ground breaking research to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes because he wanted to help his sister Hanna;
I wish Hanna could grab random food and just eat or run herself out of breath not worrying if she is going to be hypo or hyper says Alec, we need a cure for type 1 diabetes and we need it now.
Lizzie would love for JDRF to find a cure for type 1 diabetes;
I wouldnt have to keep testing myself and having cannula changes. I also want to do this to stop other people from getting type 1 diabetes.
Joe, aged 9, decided to go for it because he loves swimming;
I go swimming four times a week anyway but I was still surprised I managed to do 1352 lengths in just 21 days. Best of all I raised over £1300. Ive been totally amazed!
