Hospitality and Hope in the Heart of Swansea

Matthew’s House is a place where warmth, welcome, and hope come together right in the centre of Swansea. Our heart is to create a space that feels like home — a place where anyone, especially those who are homeless or vulnerable, can walk through the doors and immediately experience kindness and dignity, no matter their background, beliefs, or situation.

Our hospitality comes to life through several inspiring projects. Matt’s Café, our pay-as-you-feel café made from surplus food, serves great meals while reducing waste. We also offer shower and laundry facilities, along with dignity packs for those living in poverty. Together, these services create a safe and supportive environment where people can breathe, rest, and take the next steps forward. This makes Matthew’s House an ideal steppingstone to other vital services, such as housing support, mental health care, and benefits advice.

As more people turned to us in times of crisis, three further expressions of hope grew naturally out of our work. The Hope in Swansea app connects people looking for help with the many organisations across the city that can offer it. Matt’s Buddies pairs specially trained volunteers with individuals who need personalised support — whether that’s someone to listen, help fill out forms, attend appointments, or point them towards the right services. And Matt’s Community Choir brings people together through the joy of singing, helping to reduce isolation and boost wellbeing.

One of the highlights of our year is the Swansea Half Marathon, which plays a huge part in helping us keep Matthew’s House running. We’re incredibly grateful for everyone who supports us — you truly make a difference. In 2025, our amazing running team raised over £3,779, and this year we’re excited to see if we can go even further!

Matthew’s House is run as a separate initiative of The Hill Church charity. All donations go directly and exclusively to Matthew’s House — never to other Hill Church activities — so you can be confident your support makes a real impact right where it’s needed most.
