Story
More Than a Pitch - support our new sports facilities appeal
At More House School, we are committed to transforming the lives of our pupils—intelligent boys aged 8 to 18 who face challenges due to Specific Learning Difficulties, Developmental Language Disorder, and associated conditions. Through compassion, creativity, and resilience, we empower them to overcome barriers and transform their futures.
We are embarking on our More Than a Pitch fundraising campaign which is a transformational project to build new sports facilities at the school, including a state-of-the-art 3G Pitch and Sports Pavilion. These new facilities will provide our pupils and the wider community with a space to engage in sport, enhance well-being, build confidence, resilience, and teamwork skills.
“Through sport, the boys can forget their differences. It’s where their confidence and self-esteem come from.” – Parent of a Year 9 student
The need: why this project matters
• Year-round play: Our current outdoor sports fields are frequently waterlogged, forcing pupils to miss out on critical opportunities for physical activity. The new 3G Pitch will provide a reliable, all-weather surface enabling matches to be played all year-round.
• Modern facilities: We lack adequate changing rooms and spaces for visiting teams and officials. A new pavilion will ensure proper safeguarding, comfort, professionalism and the opportunity to host competitive sports events to expand opportunities for our pupils.
• Inclusive sports: With tailored PE programmes and extracurricular activities, our pupils—many with special educational needs—rely on sports for physical therapy, social connection, and personal development. The new sports space will empower pupils to reach their sporting potential, removing barriers caused by inadequate facilities.
• Community impact: The facilities will support local sports clubs and provide a vital hub for youth engagement and community activities.
Transforming lives and learning
More House School recognises the profound impact of sport on physical, mental, and emotional well-being. From football to swimming, we offer inclusive opportunities that encourage every student to find joy and success in physical activity. This project will:
• Increase participation and inclusivity by ensuring sports are accessible to all pupils.
• Foster resilience, leadership, and teamwork skills through enhanced team sports opportunities.
• Improve pupils’ mental health, providing an outlet for managing anxiety and tension.
• Reduce logistical challenges by hosting sports on-site, allowing more pupils to engage.
The vision: a sports facility for the future
• 3G Artificial Grass Pitch: A high-quality, floodlit, all-weather surface designed for competitive football, hockey, and rugby training sessions.
• Sports Pavilion: With separate changing rooms, a community hub, and facilities for officials and spectators, the pavilion will enhance the experience for pupils and visitors alike.
• Community benefits: Local clubs will gain access to reliable, year-round playing conditions, strengthening ties between the school and its neighbours.
