Story
Hello. The dogs need us. The dogs need you. One of our lovely supporters once told me to SHOUT when we needed help, so, to get straight to the point, we need your help, your kind donations, pretty please, to ensure that we can keep our doors open to older dogs in need in the coming months.
We launch our Summer Appeal, with the help of the gorgeous Beau, who came into Oldies Club care in March 2026, when his human was unable to care for him. We will share more of our dogs with you in the coming days and weeks.
Unfortunately, despite donations from some of our wonderful supporters, which we so appreciate and which have most definitely made a difference to the dogs already in our care, we made a substantial loss each month for the last three months (February, March and April 2026), a loss totalling over £18,760. We clearly can’t continue like this AND help all the older dogs we so hope to help, so we ask, if you are in a position to make a donation to our Summer Appeal, would you, please?
If you’re already familiar with Oldies Club, you’ll know that we’re a small, volunteer-run charity that rescues and rehomes older dogs in the UK. Vet bills, our predominant expense, run into the many thousands of pounds each month, as we ensure that dogs in our care receive the necessary treatment to get them back to good health and ready for adoption, while also supporting an increased number of permanent foster dogs in our sponsor scheme, where we cover vet bills for the rest of the dogs’ lives. Vet bills for an individual dog can easily reach thousands of pounds these days, so you can imagine how this all adds up with many dogs in our care, can't you?!
We really don’t want to find ourselves in the position of having to turn away older dogs in need because we don’t have the funds to ensure we’ll be able to take care of them, and we know you won’t want that to happen either. You can donate from £2 direct to our appeal (and more is welcome, of course), so please donate what you can.
We have an ongoing waiting list of dogs to come into our care and we help as many as we can, as soon as we can, placing them in foster so that the dogs benefit from living in a loving home environment, while they receive the veterinary care needed to prepare them for their forever home. We take in dogs from many different, often difficult, situations, including a dog’s person having passed away or facing a health issue that means they’re unable to continue caring for their dog. Other times, a person has moved into a care home, been made homeless, lost their job or found their work commitments have had to change and they can no longer provide or care for their dog in the way they would wish and the dog deserves.
Numerous dogs have come into our care over the years sadly having experienced some degree of neglect, perhaps for financial reasons, or due to the human's own state of health, and this does tend to result in additional costs as we do whatever we can to help those dogs. We have taken dogs in from all of these situations for many years and the current circumstances have only increased the number of dogs needing help, the number of people desperately searching for a rescue space for their dog, and we want to be there for them. With your help, we can be.
We know it’s a rather tired statement now to say, “If all of our supporters donated…” and we very much understand that not everyone is in the position to help, but to those who can donate, please do. The dogs need us. The dogs need you.
Thank you, on behalf of all the dogs we care for today and those we hope to be able to care for in the future,
Oldies Club
