Come and join us for the 10th OSCAR Dragon Boat Race on Thursday 11 September 2025!
During the race, 30 teams compete against one other, and the top six teams battle it out in a final. There’s a bar, food, quayside games and activities and a DJ to get everyone in the mood. It's an excellent networking event and good fun. Most importantly, no training is required for those who want to race!
The OSCAR Dragon Boat Race is an annual event that has already raised over £2.5 million towards the £3.5 million total raised by the OSCAR Campaign.
The Ocean and Shipping Community Advancing Children's Health and Research (OSCAR) campaign is an innovative fundraising partnership. Since 2011, it has brought together the international shipping community to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (UCL GOS ICH). The campaign has helped to refurbish vital facilities at the hospital and funded pioneering research into childhood cancers and immune diseases at GOSH and the UCL GOS ICH.
The OSCAR Campaign’s namesake is Oscar Parry, son of Spinnaker Chairman Phil Parry. Oscar was treated for two types of leukaemia from age 3 to age 8. He had two bone marrow transplants – the second trialling an entirely new theory, experimental stem cell transplant, 5 brain haemorrhages. Now 26, Oscar is a living example of the value of bench-to-bedside research and treatment.
