Story
On 11 September a team of ten paddlers and one drummer from Preston Turnbull will be participating in the Oscar Dragon Boat Race. It will be a physical challenge but the team are excited to work together and raise money for a fantastic cause!
The OSCAR Dragon Boat Race is an annual event that has already raised over £1.6 million towards the £3 million total raised by the OSCAR Campaign.
The campaign has helped to refurbish vital facilities at the hospital and funded pioneering research into childhood cancers and immune diseases at GOSH and the UCL GOS ICH.
The OSCAR Campaign’s namesake is Oscar Parry, son of Spinnaker Chairman Phil Parry. Oscar was treated for two types of leukaemia from age 3 to age 8. He had two bone marrow transplants – the second trialling an entirely new theory, experimental stem cell transplant, 5 brain haemorrhages. Now 26, Oscar is a living example of the value of bench-to-bedside research and treatment.
