Story
Taking part in the Port of Leith Distillery abseil is more than a challenge - it’s a chance to make a lasting difference in the lives of local young people.
By getting involved, you are supporting Midlothian Young People’s Advice Service (MYPAS), a trusted local charity established in 1999 that has been improving the mental health and wellbeing of young people aged 10–21 across Midlothian, East Lothian and Scottish Borders for over two decades.
MYPAS provides vital, free and confidential support through counselling and art therapy, an LGBTQ+ support service, and drug and alcohol services. These services help young people build resilience, develop coping skills, and gain the confidence they need to enjoy life, engage positively with their communities, and reach their full potential.
Many of the young people supported by MYPAS face multiple and complex disadvantages, often with very limited support available beyond the charity. This includes experiences of bereavement, trauma, abuse, bullying, disability, poor physical or mental health, caring responsibilities, being in care, parental separation, substance misuse within the family, and the effects of economic deprivation. MYPAS has a long and proven history of working effectively with vulnerable and hard-to-reach young people, offering a safe, consistent and compassionate space where they can be heard and supported.
By supporting the Port of Leith abseil, you are helping ensure these essential services continue to be there for young people when they need them most. Every step taken helps create stronger, healthier futures for young people in our local communities.
