Story
We're taking on the Purplewave challenge to deliver real-world change with The University of Manchester
The University of Manchester turns bold ideas into action – from supporting student success to pioneering research, innovation, and culture. Your fundraising helps transform these ideas into impact, backing the projects that matter most to you.
Why Manchester?
For over 200 years, Manchester has turned bold ideas into reality – from advancing student success to ground-breaking research, innovation and cultural initiatives. Now, we’re bringing our community together to support the causes that matter most to you.
Challenge Accepted.
Your Purplewave, your cause
For the first time ever, Purplewave 2026 lets you fundraise for any cause at The University of Manchester that matters most to you.
What people have fundraised for previously at Manchester
- MBA Scholarships – Alumni in the MBA class of 2005 raised funds to support postgraduate scholarships, helping future leaders access transformational study.
- Lobular Breast Cancer Research – Patients raised funds for invasive lobular breast cancer research at Manchester Breast Centre, accelerating breakthroughs in understanding and treatment.
- Imago: University of Manchester student software company – Support for a University-led software company providing paid experience for students and building tools for real academic projects.
- Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama – Support for creative and cultural events that connect students, staff, alumni and the local community through performance and the arts.
Every pound you raise drives real change across the University. Whether supporting students, research, innovation or culture, your fundraising amplifies impact and enables projects that might not otherwise happen.
I came across the Lobular Moon Shot Project and found out that this type of cancer frequently fails to be detected on a mammogram (it wasn’t shown on mine) or by ultrasound. It has no specific treatment based on its unique biology and remains an ‘unmet clinical need’. – Joanne Gwinnett – patient with lobular breast cancer and University of Manchester fundraiser
