BrainWaves is a long-term research and education program developed in collaboration with the University of Oxford, The Day News and Media and Swansea University. Our mission is to address the growing youth mental health crisis by building the evidence base and creating resources to help schools and young people. We are conducting a large, longitudinal studies of adolescent mental health, recruiting 50,000 students aged 11-19 over 10 years. This study will provide a unique insight into the adolescent brain and mental health, allowing us to design effective, evidence-based therapeutic interventions specifically for young people. The data collected will be used to power new research and will be made freely available to researchers in the UK and globally, enabling new insights into prevention and treatment. In addition to our research, we are providing cutting-edge, evidence-backed educational resources for teachers and students to effectively nurture mental wellbeing in the classroom. BrainWaves is a unique project that bridges the gap between the research community and the classroom, ensuring that scientific discoveries directly benefit the mental health and wellbeing of young people. Your support will help us continue this vital work and build a healthier future for generations to come.

Story

We’re taking on the Renewd Alpine Challenge for BrainWaves—a unique fundraising experience set in the stunning French Alps.

From 17–20 September 2026, we’ll be joining fellow Renewd members in Chamonix for two full days of hiking and “walk and talk” discussions, hosted in partnership with CHX Challenge.

This isn’t a technical climb—no ropes or crampons—but it is a real physical and mental challenge, hiking at altitude across some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Europe.

But this challenge is about more than the mountains.

We’re doing this to raise funds for BrainWaves, an initiative tackling the growing mental health challenges faced by young people. BrainWaves brings together researchers, educators and experts to develop evidence-based tools that help young people build resilience and thrive.

Mental health is one of the defining challenges of our time—and early intervention is critical.

Our goal is to help young people build resilience and take more control over their own mental wellbeing in our fast-changing and increasingly digital world.

By supporting this campaign, you’re helping fund research and practical resources that can make a lasting difference in classrooms and communities.

The Challenge

We’ll be hiking routes such as Aiguillettes des Houches and Lac Blanc, reaching over 2,000m altitude—pushing ourselves physically while supporting each other as a team.

CHX Challenge specialises in creating meaningful mountain experiences that combine personal challenge, teamwork and purpose—making this more than just a trek.

Why BrainWaves?

More young people than ever are experiencing mental health challenges.

BrainWaves is working to change that—by:

Funding research into youth mental health

Developing practical tools for educators

Helping schools nurture students' sense of agency over their own wellbeing

Every donation helps build a stronger foundation for young people to live well, learn well, and thrive.
