Story

As the athletics track user community in St Albans and surrounding District our aim is to keep the track open for the health and wellbeing of the local population. An integral part of this is to provide modern changing facilities and community spaces to support the track users, as well as maintaining the track, infield and equipment to the highest standards.

We took on the facility on 1st April 2024 and in the first 4 months the Charity hosted nearly 40 school & club athletics matches and sports days, as well as PE lessons, school training sessions, Special Olympics, youth groups and performance athletes as well as public sessions training. This amounts to over 20,000 people accessing the track.

The back story is that in January 2023 with Council financial constraints, the track was threatened with closure. Subsequently the updates in rulings around Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC), which is present in the pavilion roof, led to it's closure for safety reasons, leaving the users with portaloos and no changing or safe space.

As you may have seen in local and national news, St Albans Track hosts a number of athletes have reached both national selection for England and of course, the ultimate accolade of a 17 year old 800m Olympian.

How can you help? Donating personally is an easy option and we thank you in advance for your generosity. You can volunteer and support the track with ongoing maintenance or ask your employer or organisation to support the track facility.
