Story
The Sussex Beacon receives 25% of our funding from statutory sources and the rest comes from our own fundraising activities. Choosing to become a Team Beacon Hero is vital in funding our work.
This year we’re focusing on our services that support people living with HIV, and members of the LGBTQ+ community, facing stigma.
The Sussex Beacon supports and cares for people across Sussex who are living with HIV. Changes in medication now mean that most people live a full and long life, however for the most vulnerable, it's a constant challenge. Living with HIV you are much more likely to develop secondary conditions like diabetes, dementia, cardiovascular disease or kidney disease.
A number of our patients need social care and help with their day to day lives, as well as mental health support. Many of our patients are ageing with HIV and are increasingly frail and more prone to other infections. They are also more likely to be living alone or isolated, which can lead to depression and poor mental health.
The Sussex Beacon based in Brighton, is a valued local lifeline to many. Please support our #teambeaconheroes who are raising much needed funds and vital awareness.
