Challenge
Half the Palestinian population are children. In Gaza, they are being bombed, blockaded, and occupied. Families are on the brink of starvation. In the West Bank, Israeli attacks have also forced communities to flee their homes. More than 40,000 people are displaced, the most in decades. Israeli settler violence is on the rise and there are increasing numbers of checkpoints dividing the West Bank causing more poverty.
Solution
MECA works for the rights and well-being of children. We have been working in Palestine for 36 years. With the support of The Big Ride for Palestine, MECA and our local partners will provide food parcels, hot meals, clean drinking water, and other essential aid to families impacted by Israel's attacks across Palestine. And we will provide psychosocial support for traumatized children whenever it is possible including sports and other physical activities.
Long-Term Impact
Right now our focus is on meeting the immediate needs of Palestinian children and families. In the long term, this project will reduce the children's risk of disease and malnutrition by addressing basic needs for food, medical care and adequate shelter that could impact their development and long-term health.
