Story
One Door. One Woman. A Chance to Breathe, Feel Safe, and Stabilise.
This campaign is to support the provision of safe, trauma-informed accommodation for women in Bradford. For many women at times of crisis, mixed‑gender or hostel accommodation is not safe or appropriate. Domestic abuse, exploitation and homelessness create real barriers to accessing substance use recovery and protection from further harm. Privacy, dignity and security are essential.
The primary aim is to raise £50,000 to buy and create a small, 2‑bed emergency home in Bradford for women supported by Bridge living in unsafe situations and often exploited – giving them a safe place to begin recovery and avoid further harm. If this isn’t achievable with the funds raised, they will be put towards alternative means of supporting women in these situations.
"Bridge will match-fund everything raised through this appeal using our reserves to secure and refurbish the property, doubling the impact of every donation, but we need your help." (CEO).
This will be one unit, done well — offering a calm, secure space where a woman can pause, feel safe, and stabilise, supported at her pace.
Why this matters
Without access to appropriate accommodation at points of crisis, women are often forced to remain in unsafe situations, placing their safety and wellbeing at risk.
This unit will offer:
- Immediate dignity, privacy and safety for women under Bridge's care
- A self‑contained environment
- Trauma‑informed, gender‑specific support from Bridge staff
- Integration with Bridge’s wider services and trusted partners
Drawing on over 40 years of experience, Bridge will deliver this alongside existing partnerships across housing, health, domestic abuse, police and treatment services — complementing, not replacing, statutory provision.
“You’re expected to rebuild your life out of thin air. I couldn’t have done this on my own. Bridge provided a safety net until I could get back on my feet" (a person supported by Bridge)
We know £50,000 feels like a lot – here’s how to break it down.
Your donation will help turn a property into a place of safety:
- £25 - Safety pack (bedding, toiletries, essentials)
- £50 - Helps to build that safe and secure space
- £250 – Covers utilities and running costs for one month
- £500 – Funds vital security and safety adaptations
- £1,000 – Provides a full ‘safe month’ of accommodation
- £5,000 and more – Become a founding supporter of this life‑changing space
Whether you’re giving personally, as a family, or through your organisation’s CSR or Impact Giving, your contribution plays a direct role in making this space possible.
Every donation here helps unlock the full £100,000 total investment in this property (Bridge's Development Lead).
How you can help
Sometimes we wonder how we can help those we see on the streets, or people who remind us of someone in our own family. By coming together, we can create a safe space where women have their own front door and support they need to move forward.
"Please donate if you’re able, and share this appeal with others - so we can make this practical solution to improve women’s safety, a reality" (Bridge service manager).
Thank you for standing with women when it matters most.
