Story

The Margaret Kerr Unit was fully funded by charitable donations. We received a generous legacy from Nurse Margaret Kerr which inspired the appeal to build a specialist palliative care facility in the Borders. Thanks to the generosity of the Borders' public in raising the 'final million' we raised the full sum of £4.1 million to build the Margaret Kerr Unit which opened in January 2013.

The team also look after patients in their homes, community hospitals and care homes in along with those in the BGH and MKU.

We are grateful for the ongoing support and donations to the fund. Any donations to The Margaret Kerr Unit and Palliative Care fund are used to:

make improvements in the garden

provide artwork throughout the Unit

assist with patient transport costs

provide complimentary therapies

provide free tea and coffee

develop palliative care services throughout the hospital and community
